What Have We Been Doing?

February started with our map exploration.  First, a map of our school yard with photos. Where are the swings?  The gazebo? Where is the sidewalk?

A symbolic map of our classroom.  The colors closely represent the object  (the yellow desk, the red piano, the large blue rug.) Here, some wooden children are sitting on the rug, another is reading in our book area (the small red square.)

Then something a bit more abstract, a map of “Red Town,” “Blue Town,” and “Brown Town.”

If you look carefully, you’ll see Costco, Target, and an office building!

Then we walked to the Post Office and used a map of the neighborhood! The triangle is the big white church.  When we see it, we’re going to turn left onto Washington Street.  Each square represents  a house.

How can we make our own Post Office?  What did we see?  What do we need?

The children made a LOT of mail. The children above are buying stamps and the postal workers are hand cancelling the mail, just like we did when we went!

More to come!
